Modlivy dul is a name of a beautiful rock valley deeply set into limestone rocks under the Tisovy hill at the northeast border of Svojkov. The chine used to be called the Smolny dul (the pitchy valley) because local coalmen had also pitch furnaces where they made the axle grease. There are a lot of legends narrated about this place. One tells about a peasant boy who killed his rival in love. Another one is about the suicide of the knight from Svojkov with the daughter of local brewer who falls in love together but her parents disapproved it.
